If you drive for a rideshare service, you know how important it is to your business to have a high driver rating. However, many people aren’t sure what it is about them or the experience they provide that causes them to have a lower score than they’d like. But if you want to have people use your service and make more money for yourself, you want to be able to attract as many passengers as possible. So to help with this, here are three way you can become a higher-rated rideshare driver.

Use A Phone Mount

When you’re driving people around to their destinations, you likely need the help of your GPS to ensure you get them to where they need to go. But while you need to be using your phone, you also need to be safe with your phone usage. According to Dough, a contributor to RidesharingDriver.com, drivers who are distracted by their phones often get lower ratings than those who use mounts for their devices. Even if your passenger doesn’t say something at the time, you distracted driving can be very scary and even put their life at risk, so it only makes sense that they’d want to warn others about your behavior by giving you a lower rating. So if this is something you’ve been doing, consider getting a mount for your phone.

Provide A Few Small Conveniences

In addition to providing a safe ride to your passengers, you may also want to go a little above and beyond if you’re trying to overcome a low rating. According to Owain Williams, a contributor to RideshareCentral.com, a great way to do this is to offer your passengers a few small conveniences during their ride. Keep a few different phone chargers on-hand so you can help them charge up their phones if they need to. Provide some gum or mints or even a bottle of water if they’re interested. While these aren’t things you’ll necessarily charge them for, you could see a great return on your investment by getting some great ratings and more business in the future.

Be Polite

As with all your interactions with people, you’re going to want to be as polite as you can to the people you’re driving around. Greet them in a friendly manner, and don’t be afraid of a small talk if it comes naturally. According to Rachel Hosie, a contributor to the Independent, you should also try to keep your language clean. If it’s something you would be comfortable saying in front of your parents or grandparents, it’s best to leave it for when you’re off-duty.

To help improve your rideshare driver ratings, consider using the tips mentioned above the next time you pick someone up.
