Designing a business website is much easier than you may think.  There is no one way to build a successful business website, but there are several things that have been proven effective throughout the years.

Take a little advice from those who have come before you, and learn something new today.  Here is a quick review of a few of the most pertinent aspects of a well-built business website.

Navigation is non-negotiable

Every website, business or not, has to come equipped with navigation options.  People need a way to move around throughout your content. Without navigation options, all you have are a bundle of unrelated web pages.

The most traditional manner of adding navigation to a site’s design is to add a stationary navigation bar to the display.  Like this example website shows, a stationary navigation bar makes it easy to see where you are and where you want to go.

Communication rules all

Communication is a function of all successful websites.  If you plan to create longevity for the business, your website’s design has to encourage communication.  You have to listen to the people.

Web users are brutally honest, and no one can show you where you’ve gone wrong quicker.  It is important to listen to the people who frequent your website.

Create the standard contact page (like this stellar example), but add other pleas for communication along the way.  Your homepage could use an added contact number, and your blog doesn’t quite look complete without a comment box.

Social media boosts visibility

You’ll want to add a design element that links your site’s content to the vast outlet of social media.  The simplest way to accomplish the task is to litter your pages with social media sharing buttons.

People know exactly what to do when they see those small sharing buttons, and your website could use the free marketing plug.  Place sharing buttons on your homepage, and don’t forget to add them alongside of every blog post.

Optimize your design for mobile users

Mobile access to your website should display correctly, and no one should have to pinch and swipe to navigate around your site.  Mobile access to the internet is extremely common now, and your website will do better if it fits the bill.

The simplest way to set your website’s design up for mobile users is to add media queries to your coding.  Research the proper usage of media queries, so your website can automatically adjust to the size of the current viewing screen.

Search engine optimization is key

Search engine optimization will teach you how to format your content in such a way that you will rank higher in the SERPs (search engine results pages).  Ranking higher in the SERPs means that more people have the opportunity to explore your website.
